Spaced Out

He found a way to do his will
And now he is in his place,
Like a picture he lies there still –
Gazing blankly into blank space.

The light shines in his sad eyes
Yet there’s not a flicker or a flinch,
His senses have said their goodbyes
And now he does not move an inch.

The noises in the background
Cannot plant their loud seed,
Although he hears their sound
He does not feel the need to heed.

Gone are his sad pains for now
As he travels in his mad mind,
When he wakes he’ll realise how
His troubles weren’t left behind.

But for now he is content
To lie and waste away,
Until his mind is spent
From being high that way.

  1. Powerful poem, Andrew! one of my principals told me once that kids get into drugs because they are trying to self-medicate and alleviate the pain in their lives. Drug addiction is tragic and such a waste. I think you captured the numbing of the pain so well! All the best to you, my friend!

    1. Thank you Louise, for your kind words. It's a shame when youngsters turn to drugs, such a waste. I have some old school friends who are junkies, and speak to them on occasion. They have my sympathy for their hardship with battling their addictions! Blessings to you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
