A Cadet Regret

I was keen to be a Marine
When I was a wise teenager,
But sadly I couldn't join
up to be a gallant soldier,
This to me was a sad pain
Which I told my sad Mother,
She to me is like a wain
Carrying burdens with her.

I worked on a milk-round
To earn me a few pound,
I would run for some fun
When delivering to a sum.
I made the rank corporal -
A cadet with some pull.
